We would like to
present a unique volunteer experience for people of any age. We have a home-based child centered program
based on the Son-Rise program for our 8 year old autistic son, Brenen. Brenen is
a moderate to high functioning autistic boy with excellent eye
contact. He loves to laugh and play with
his volunteers. We play with Brenen in a
playroom 6-8 hours a day. Through this
play we interact and subsequently teach Brenen by following his lead. We act as his speech therapists, occupational
therapists, but most importantly his friend.
Our program is based on a loving accepting attitude. We completely accept Brenen where he is at
any moment in time, but still strive to help him relate, communicate, learn,
and use imaginary play (these areas are challenging to autistic children).
We are asking
for a four-hour (two- two hour shifts) a
week commitment for at least 6 months.
No experience is necessary. We
will train you. If you love children, want to grow
personally, or think special education teaching may be a career for you this is
a great experience.
*THIS IS A 6 MONTH COMMITMENT!!!
