Each Spring since 1991, the Conant Athletic
Department has presented the Kim Noonan Award to the female athlete who
best exhibits the special qualities of this very special young lady, who
graced us at Conant with her presence between 1984 and 1988. The plaque
mentions a zeal and enthusiasm for life, and spirit and courage in the
face of adversity.
Congratulations to the 2006 winner Stephanie Lindeman. As the years pass, there are fewer and fewer of us who know who Kim was and what she gave to all of us who had the privilege of knowing her. Therefore, we would like to tell you a little bit about her. The more we all know about Kim, the more meaning it gives this important and prestigious award and its recipients. |

Kim Noonan attended Conant High School between the years of 1984 and 1988. She was an outstanding athlete, playing Soccer, Softball and Basketball. She was honored as one of the ten outstanding athletes of the class of 1988. Kim was a good student, who used the perseverance and work ethic that would define her life to get good grades. She wrote for the school newspaper and and was honored by her classmates, in her senior year by being selected the Homecoming Queen and a member of the Prom Court. Kim was a strong and energetic young lady, who had an infectious smile and personality to go with it. In good health, she was the type of role model we all want for our young people. However, when her health began to fail these qualities did more than define her, they truly became an inspiration to the faculty and students around her. During her Junior year, Kim was diagnosed with leukemia. Through her chemotherapy, she continued to compete in athletics and participate in school activities. She attended Harper Community College in 1989 and competed in Basketball and Volleyball. She moved on to Loyola University in 1990 as a Education student and competed in Soccer. During the summer, she was a camp counselor at the One Step at a Time children's oncology camp at George Williams College. In 1990, Kim lost her battle with leukemia, but her memory lives on through those she touched in her all too brief life. |
