SADD announces Pre-Prom Activities

The Students Against Destruct Decisions Club (SADD) will be providing four very important programs as part of their annual pre-prom activities, according to History teacher and SADD sponsor Frank Kernats.

Monday, May 23 - Jim Gallo Presentation

Former Conant student Jim Gallo will speak to Conant students during 5th and 6th hours about the dangers of drinking and driving.  Jim is a 1979 graduate of Conant who speaks to 30,000 high school students a year.  He is a management consultant specializing in reorganizations and troubled company turnarounds.  He also is a shooting guard on the wheelchair team of the NBA Bulls.  The team is the #9 team of 140 teams playing in the National wheelchair Basketball Association.  Jim and his wife Joelle have two children, Grace and Jack.  Jim last spoke to Conant students in 1993.

Tuesday, May 24 - DUI Accident Reenactment

The SADD club members will reenact a DUI accident with the help of the Hoffman Estates Police and Fire Departments.  This will take place on the football field and will show Junior and senior students the catastrophic effects of drinking and driving.

Friday, May 27 - SADD presents "Death Day"

Students from each class periods will be removed from class and return with a sign declaring they died in a DUI crash.

Tuesday, May 31 - Drama Club presents "The Quiet Place"

The Conant Drama Club will perform the play, " The Quiet Place" during the 3rd through 6th periods in the auditorium.

Cast:  3m., 4w.   This realistic, award-winning script deals with the issue of teenage peer pressure in a drug-oriented society. Overlooking an unseen cemetery, Sheila sits alone, remembering her boyfriend Danny. She is interrupted by the arrival of Danny's older brother and we discover that Danny's funeral is tomorrow and that his brother is here checking on the cemetery arrangements. It seems that Danny died from a lethal combination of drugs and alcohol. A gang of threatening former "friends" of Danny's appears and they try to intimidate Sheila into concealing from the police the truth about what happened. They know she holds them responsible for Danny's death, and in a powerful, tension-filled confrontation, the gang is faced down by Sheila and the truth. Bare stage w/props.
