Social Studies Course Offerings

It is time to schedule classes for next year! To aid in your decisions, here is a brief description of the classes available and some general recommendations.

Incoming Freshman

Since most colleges require 3 years of Social Studies, most students get started in their freshman year.  Students will choose between World History G146 and World Geography G143.

We also have a new class especially for incoming freshmen with Explore scores below 12. The course is called Global Studies (G 161) and is designed to help these students improve their reading and writing skills while covering a combination of geography and history.

2006 - 2007 Sophomores

Students in the Advanced Placement track are recommended to take the AP class in the subject area from their freshman year.  This would include AP European History G359 and AP Human Geography G349

Students may also take World History G146, World Geography 143 or Women's Studies G236 (1 semester only).

2006 - 2007 Juniors

All students should take U.S. History (AP G369, G342 or G341)or American Studies 336.   In addition, they make take any of the department electives (Psychology, Women's Studies or Law and the Individual).

2006 - 2007 Seniors

Students in the AP track should take AP Macroeconomics/Government G469-479. 

All other students will take Social Science Survey (G442 or G441) or Intro to Government and Economics G466/476.

Additionally, students may take any of the department electives (Psychology, Women's Studies or Law and the Individual).

Also, students interested in taking an AP course but not in AP Macroeconomics/ Government may take AP Human Geography or AP European History in combination with either Social Science Survey or Intro to Economics/Government.
