            1)  Outline: Major Points of Chapter 14

            2)  Studying Chapter 14: Go-over Chapter 14 and student’s outlines/Discuss, Question,

                 and Clarify (pgs. 389-402)

            3)  Terms: Define and Discuss the terms of Chapter 14

            4)  HW: Active Read and be prepared to Discuss these Documents: a) The

                 Supreme Court Takes the Southern Side, b) Popular Sovereignty Explained: The

                 Freeport Doctrine, c) The Republican Party and the Race Question, and d)

                Failure to Compromise: Crittenden Compromise. (Due Wed. 11/25)

                 B. Read essay, Why the War Came: The Sectional Struggle over Slavery in the

                Territories, by David Herbert Donald.  Write a thesis synopsis. (Due Mon. 11/30)
