JAMES B. CONANT HIGH SCHOOL

Office of the Principal

A teacher may fail a student for the semester even though a passing grade was given the first nine weeks if the following conditions are met:

1.       The student stopped working after the first nine weeks.

2.       The student and parents received a specific failure notice.  “This letter is to inform you that even though your son or daughter received a “C” or better for the first nine weeks of the semester, their 4th quarter performance has declined. If his/her class performance and/or attendance and test scores do not improve, he/she will fail the course.”

3.      The teacher called and contacted the parents by phone to warn them of the situation.  The parents must be told that if performance does not improve, failure in the course will result.  This phone call must be completed by May 4-8 to permit improvement.

4.       I need to be informed of all “passing average but failing course” situations by May 11th.

Students should be held accountable for their work or lack of it.  Parents are usually supportive when they have had prior notice and an opportunity to work with their children.

Please submit the form below if all conditions from above are satisfied.
