It’s Time to Take Action!!

Introduction:  All this talk about POLLUTION makes me really want to do something about it.  We’ve read about it, talked a bit about it, and had some homework about it.  What can I really do about it?  It’s now necessary to apply what we learned from our textbook to our own lives.  We need to take a step back and really take a good look…

Right now, take a few minutes and brainstorm how you, me, and all the Illinois citizens contribute to water, air, and land pollution in Illinois.  When asked, talk to a couple people around you and come up with a list below.

            How we contribute to pollution:

Your Task: You and one other person are to write a letter to either of Illinois’ senators Dick Durbin, Barack Obama, or Illinois’ governor Rod Blagojevich to convince him to help stop polluting our environment.  You and your partner will choose one of the above three pollutions and one of the above three politicians.  You will need to research your pollution and ways to help stop it.  Keep track of your sources!

In your letter you will:    1. state the problem of your pollution and what contributes to it

2. explain how you have reflected on your personal contribution to the problem

                                                3. state what you propose to help fix the problem

                                                4. state why and how you think the government should help out and get involved

Your Grade:        Your letter looks formal, signed by its authors, and dated. 3 points

You will be able to earn 3 points a piece on numbers 1-4 from above.  12 points

Make sure your letter is spell checked and is your best work. 3 points

A separate sheet will be submitted with your sources.  2 points
