Spare Change for
Heifer, International
UPDATE: We raised $1400.00!
Great job again!
Once again, the students of Conant High School have demonstrated their great
generosity. This year in three weeks we raised $1400.00. The money will purchase
a "Milk Menagerie" (1 cow, 1 water buffalo and 2 goats), two llamas, a trio of
rabbits, a flock of chicks and a flock of ducks for people in need. These
animals will produce food (milk, butter, cheese, eggs & meat) and income (by
selling the excess) for the families receiving the gift. Heifer International
will also provide training for these families to help insure that these animals
remain productive. When the animals begin reproducing the families will pass
along the first female offspring to other families in their area. In this way
our gift will slowly continue to spread. This is one of the best features of the
Heifer program. It not only works toward the goal of ending hunger but helps
people become self-reliant as well.

Our goal this year was $1,000. Going into
the final week it looked as if we might not make it but the Cougar family came
through in a big way over the last few days. We in the Social Studies department
are very proud to have been a part of this successful effort and greatly
appreciate the generosity of all who donated. One of our goals as a department
is to help students connect their studies at school with real world issues and
problems. We also want our students to know that each of us can make a
difference, but only by taking action, never by simply spectating. Each
donation, however small, contributed to our achievement. When each of us commits
to action and we combine our efforts great things can be accomplished. In
December, we got off to a good start.
Thanks again Cougars ! Great
job!
