G369 Advanced Placement
United States History
AP US History is a class for students of above average ability. It places an
emphasis on college level skills in reading, writing, and analysis of
material. The course moves
rapidly to allow for the AP test given in the beginning of May. Students need
to be motivated and willing to work at an accelerated pace.
Entry to the class should require recommendation of a Social Studies
teacher or a counselor based on
placement in English classes and the level of accomplishment in those classes.
Student performance in the class should be at a B- level or higher to maintain
eligibility.
United States History G342
United States History 0342 is a survey of the major stages of development of
the country. The course begins by studying the colonization of the North
American continent and proceeds through to the present. There is an emphasis
on recognizing the relationships between the political, social and cultural
aspects of the American society. These
relationships reflect the ethnic, racial, religious and philosophical
diversity of the population. Reading
comprehension, concept development, presentation skills and research methods
are reviewed and developed. Students will learn to create, interpret and then
apply their knowledge to the world around them. Students must be able to use
correct research and writing skills in order to acceptably complete the
research requirement. History 0342 is designed to prepare students for history
at the university level.
American History G341
American History 341
recognizes the fact that the students in the class need special attention in
two areas -basic skill development and academic motivation. While the
classroom teacher is responsible for meeting all the class objectives and
basic knowledge, they look to supplement in those two areas of need. Skill
development in areas such as reading and writing are encouraged through
activities and strategies such as joumaling and extra-reading. Since these
students are often lacking classroom motivation, special attention is made to
make the class applicable to their lives, through the infusion of current
events and American culture. More emphasis is placed on hands-on activities
such poster development to stimulate other learning styles such as visual
learners. Though these areas are part of all three levels of American History
, the 341 classrooms will make a bit more of investment in this skill building
and supplementation, as compared to the
core historical information.
