Psychology

Psychology is the study of human and animal behavior. Here at Conant High School Psychology 1 & 2 is offered to juniors and seniors. We will attempt to answer the "Age Old" question that has baffled mankind for centuries:  Why do we Humans behave the way we do? We begin our investigation by briefly studying the history and evolution of psychology. Following this introduction we will take a topographical approach studying the many areas of human nature. The areas we will studying Psychology 1 include: "Fathers of Psychology" -Freud, Skinner, Rogers ect., Methods of psychological research-including hands on human experimentation, The Brain & Sensation and Perception, learning theories. In Psychology 2, we study sleeping and dreaming-including dream journaling and dream interpretation, human development, stress and its affects on the body as well as abnormal behavior and psychosis. Many methods are used during the study of human nature including: traditional lecture and note taking, group discussion and activities, journal writing, and hands-on experimentation. A word of caution, however, this is not a self help course! Our goal is obtain a better understanding of human nature and ourselves- Thus answering the question-Why do we behave the way we do?
